There is still light at the end of the tunnel for the Carolina Panthers. There is still a chance to break .500. There is still a chance, with some extra luck, to make the playoffs. With a chance to play each NFC South opponent one more time (Tampa twice), the Panthers have a shot to move up in the division and try their luck at a wild card.
The Panthers have eight games remaining this season. Five of these are on the road and three are at home. Three of these contests are versus AFC opponents, and five are against NFC opponents. In order to improve their overall record, the Panthers obviously need to win whenever they have the chance. Aside from the NFC South matchups, the next most important game is against Detroit in two weeks. This is a chance for the Panthers to knock down an NFC leader and gain notoriety.
The games against AFC opponents are important as well; Tennessee this week, Indianapolis, and Houston in the coming weeks. Tennessee doesn't pose as grave a threat since Chris Johnson is having an off-year, and wide receiver Kenny Britt is out with knee problems. Hopefully Cam Newton wants to accomplish more than just rookie of the year honors. Hopefully he wants to compete at an even higher level.
Despite what may or may not happen, the Panthers still have a chance. With a two week break leading into this weeks game, the Carolina Panthers have a shot to turn it all around. They have a shot to prove to the league that they can finish on a win streak. Most importantly, they have a shot to prove that they can limp into the playoffs, and still take action.
The Panthers must start the second half of the season with a win in order to hold onto this small chance flicker of hope. They must win at home against the Titans, and do more than just win by a few points. They must take this chance to prove to the league that they are not a doormat anymore. My prediction: Carolina stomps Tennessee; 41-14.
