The Buffalo Sabres’ Schedule for the NHL Prospects Tournament Has Been Announced

The Buffalo Sabres will look to make the championship game of the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament for the third consecutive year starting in September.

The Detroit Red Wings, who host the tournament every year, announced the schedule for the upcoming tournament which will be held at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Michigan.

The tournament will be held from September 12-16 and features prospect teams that are divided into two groups.

The Sabres are in the Ted Lindsay Division. The other division features last year's champions, the Red Wings, in the Gordie Howe Division.

Here's a full list of participating teams and their divisions:

Ted Lindsay Division

  • Buffalo Sabres
  • Carolina Hurricanes
  • Dallas Stars
  • New York Rangers

Gordie Howe Division

  • Detroit Red Wings
  • Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Minnesota Wild
  • St. Louis Blues

Each team will play their three division opponents and then be ranked. The top teams in their divisions will play in the championship match while each of the other seeds will play their matching counterpart from the other division.

The Buffalo Sabres have finished first in their division over the last two years, winning the tournament once.

Last season featured high picks such as Rasmus Ristolainen and Nikita Zadorov. Other players who took part in the tournament were Zemgus Girgensons, Johan Larsson, Joel Armia, Justin Bailey, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Chad Ruhwedel, Nathan Lieuwen, Andrey Makarov and members of the Rochester Americans prospects.
Nicholas Baptiste led the Sabres with four goals and three assists in the four games last season.
The Sabres haven't announced their roster yet.

Friday, Sept. 12 – Buffalo v. Carolina, 4 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 13 – Buffalo v. NY Rangers, 7 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 15 – Dallas v. Buffalo, 3 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 16 -
Seventh-Place Game: 4th Lindsay v. 4th Howe, 3 p.m. (David’s Rink)
Fifth-Place Game: 3rd Howe v. 3rd Lindsay, 3:30 p.m. (West Rink)
Third-Place Game: 2nd Lindsay v. 2nd Howe, 6:30 p.m. (David’s Rink)
Championship Game: 1st Howe v. 1st Lindsay, 7 p.m. (West Rink)
