According to multiple sources, the Winnipeg Jets are listening to offers for top six forward Evander Kane and the Buffalo Sabres have been named as a possible trade partner.
While some have stated that the Jets are looking to get a draft pick or two in addition to a player in return for Kane, a price tag that teams may not be able to pay.
The Jets may be stuck with an unhappy player on their roster if they are not able to trade the forward. Kane, who has been labeled as a player with a bad attitude at times, didn't help things on a Winnipeg radio station.
When asked if he still wanted to play for the Jets, Kane said the following:
"Well, I think I'm a Winnipeg Jet right now, and, you know, there's been speculation and rumors the three years since I got there. So, you know, we'll see what happens and we'll carry on as if I'm a Winnipeg Jet."
One thing that the Sabres have that the Jets want is draft picks and one thing that the Sabres may not have is a forward that the Jets are interested in.
Kane has four years left in his contract and has scored 99 goals since turning pro in 2009.
Despite not giving a definitive answer regarding his status with the Winnipeg Jets, Kane did offer the following regarding his training.
"I’m training hard and getting ready for this season, and last summer I didn’t have a full year of training due to some surgery I had, so I found it really important for me to start training early and get myself in the best shape possible for this season. So that’s my focus."
Kane is just 22 years old and still has some growing to do in the league.
While there is no confirmation that Kane has asked for a trade, the Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has mentioned that they are open to all offers, for any player.
“We’re going to listen to everybody,” Cheveldayoff said. “If there’s a guy that a team has an interest in, then my phone is open for a phone call.”
There is no guarantee that this is the season that Kane gets dealt, but if they do move the forward, the move may be made before the season begins.
