Patrick Kane's contract with the Chicago Blackhawks has one year remaining and many Buffalo Sabres fans have dreams that Kane will hit free agency and return home to play for Buffalo.

Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman has other plans for Kane.

"It's the highest priority for us," Bowman told "Looking at next year, there's no doubt that's what we're going to do. We made it clear. We've never wavered from that. There's no doubting the importance of those two players. The direction this franchise has taken has really been in tandem with those two players. When Patrick and Jonathan came on to the scene, it really breathed life into our franchise and into our team. They've played a huge part in this."

Kane is beloved in Buffalo, being a native of the area. His superstar status only magnifies his presence in the Western New York area. Of course, he's also somewhat of a big deal in Chicago. Kane scored the Stanley Cup clinching goal in 2010 and has consistently been an offensive threat and a nightmare for opposing teams.

The Sabres are in full rebuilding mode and while it would be nice to think of Kane coming home to help bring Buffalo from the darkest of basements to a championship caliber team, it's not a very likely scenario. Kane has won two Stanley Cups in four years and has a solid team in Chicago where he could potentially win one, or even more championships before his career is over.
