This season for the Buffalo Sabres has been filled with futility, with spurts of mediocrity and slivers of decency.

That being said, the Sabres have been in nearly every game they've played. Buffalo will hope to turn things around tonight when they play the Ottawa Senators in what is expected to be another half-empty First Niagara Center.

While the Sabres have competed much harder since Ted Nolan took over the team, the results aren't seeing much of a shift. Buffalo has dropped their last two games since earning points in back-to-back games and will have to play a Senators team that has historically had the upper hand on Buffalo, even during their dominant seasons.

The good news for Buffalo is that some players are gaining confidence. Tyler Myers has turned into a completely different player, as he is more physical and contributing offensively and in the breakout passing game. Tyler Ennis has three points in two games and seems to be settling into a groove offensively for the Sabres, while Zemgus Girgensons saw his hard work pay off when he scored his second goal of the season Saturday, out-working two Montreal defenders and a goaltender.

The fact is, the Sabres need to play a complete game, and they need to start scoring goals. The Sabres have scored three or more goals just seven times this season, while allowing their goaltenders to get pelted with shots. In this generation of offensive hockey, that statistic is simply not good enough.
