The Rochester Americans ended the first month of the 2013-14 AHL season just three points out of first place in the North Division.
The Amerks have a 4-2-2 record, good for 10 points. The Hamilton Bulldogs – with two extra games played thus far – have a 5-2-3 record (13 points). The Toronto Marlies (5-3-1) are second.
Phil Varone leads the Amerks with 12 points (two goals, 10 assists). Luke Adam has excelled early with eight goals in eight games. Sharing time in goal have been Matt Hackett (2-2-1 record in six games, 3.74 GAA, .899 save percentage) and Nathan Lieuwen (2-1-0 in five games, 2.91 GAA, .910 save percentage).
The Amerks last played Nov. 1, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Syracuse Crunch. Rochester's next game is at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at home against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
