This season for the Buffalo Sabres has been filled with nothing but frustration. Currently sporting the worst record in the National Hockey League at 2-12-1, earning only five points through their first 15 games. Couple that with the recent suspensions of forwards John Scott and Patrick Kaleta, and the overall team morale is decidedly low at this early point in the 2013-2014 season. "It's been hard to remain positive, but we are here for a reason", said Scott. It was announced this morning that Scott will drop the appeal of his seven game suspension for the his hit on Loui Ericksson during the October 23rd Sabres/Bruins game. Scott also had a rather funny moment during practice. As he went for a slap shot along the side boards, his stick snapped. He then skated to the bench in search of a new stick.
As the morning skate began, Joel Armia was the first Sabres player onto the ice. Armia, coming back from a broken hand he suffered in preseason, is ready to insert himself into the lineup. The right winger was drafted by Buffalo in the first round (16th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft. Armia is another one of the prized prospects looking to make a major impact on the Sabres this season. Armia looked incredibly fast and smooth while handling the puck during practice drills. It remains to be seen if he can contribute for the Sabres, as they are in the midst of their worst season in team history.
The Sabres and Ducks are headed in opposite directions this season. One has to wonder what more will happen during what has been a tumulutous season to say the least.
Mikhail Grigorenko will be a healthy scratch tonight. Nikita Zadorov will be back in the lineup. Jhonas Enroth will start in net.
