Matt Moulson, the newest addition to the Buffalo Sabres, certainly proved himself to be "in it to win it" during Tuesday night's game against the Dallas Stars.
Moulson scored two out of three goals for the team less than 24 hours after being acquired from the New York Islanders. Although he played well, Moulson admits he was mentally drained from this week's unexpected transition to upstate New York:
"I was probably too tired to focus on anything else. It's not easy waking up at 4:30 in the morning."
In an interview Wednesday with Sabres 101, Moulson expressed additional difficulties regarding the trade:
"I think the hardest part is getting over the fact that you're traded. Your life gets turned upside down. You're forced to focus pretty quick on hockey. It's tough leaving family and kids behind to just focus on hockey and not worry about anything else."
Thus far, though, he said he's adjusting well in Buffalo:
"Other people made it easier for me. A lot of the wives and management got in contact with my wife and made her feel comfortable. She's at home with two young kids right now, so it's tough. You guys here were great to me and accepted me with open arms right away. It was the people in the organization and the guys on the team that made me feel comfortable."
Moulson grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, and then went on to attend Cornell University, where he was team captain. Moulson has played for the Los Angeles Kings and the Islanders and has had quite a successful professional career so far. While playing for the Islanders, Moulson had three consecutive 30-goal seasons.
