The Buffalo Sabres will hope to avoid embarrassing themselves against a tough division opponent in the Boston Bruins on national television tonight.
The Bruins (5-2-0) will enter the First Niagara Center to play the lowly Sabres (1-8-1). Although the game is being played in Buffalo, fans will surely be hostile toward the Sabres, as they have been all season.
Boston is averaging 32.7 shots per game, while Buffalo averages just 26.7. The Sabres were held without a shot for the first 14:10 of their last game against Colorado, which triggered enormous negative rants from the hometown fans. Boston is also allowing just 1.43 goals per game, while the Sabres are scoring just 1.20 goals per game. It's easy to see that the Sabres have their work cutout for them.
This will be Buffalo's first meeting with Boston, Buffalo is 0-2-1 in division games this season, while Boston is 4-1-0, and holds a 3-0-0 record on the road. While Buffalo has struggled, head coach Ron Rolston has continuously said he and his team "have to figure it out." Unfortunately for him as his team, fans are tired of waiting for them to do so.
The Sabres will need to show significant progress tonight, against a very tough opponent. At this point, the thought of a win against the Bruins is laughable, but a good effort against a tough team like Boston may be enough to get some of the fan pressure lifted from their shoulders.
