Buffalo Sabres Try to Enter Win Column Against Chicago Blackhawks October 12th, 2013 at 9:00 AM

team will ever go winless in an NHL
season. But the Buffalo
Sabres are doing their best so far in 2013-14 to make such a feat a reality.
Buffalo is now 0-4-1 and coming off a completely lifeless showing at home against Columbus. Thursday's 4-1 loss showed just how far Buffalo has fallen this season. Columbus scored three third-period goals and kept the Sabres from presenting any sort of challenge.
The challenge won't be any easier today for the Sabres, who are in Chicago to play the defending champion Blackhawks (8 p.m., MSG, NHL Network). Chicago beat the New York Islanders 3-2 Friday night to improve to 2-1-1 thus far this season.
The Hawks are giving up three goals a game, good for 19th in the NHL. Barring a stunning change of events for Buffalo, that number will improve. The Sabres have scored five goals in five games this season. That pace put them way below the record-low for goals in a season, held by the 1953-54 Blackhawks.
Not that he'd be much help offensively, but the Sabres will be without Patrick Kaleta for at least two games. He's suspended pending a discilpine hearing Tuesday for a hit during Thursday's loss that went unpenalized. Coach Ron Rolston said defenseman Alexander Sulzer might make his season debut tonight, as Henrik Tallinder continues to recover from injury.
Patrick Kane leads the Hawks with three goals and is tied for the team lead with four points. Corey Crawford (2.93 GAA) played the first three games before Nikolai Khabibulin made 17 saves to get the win Friday.
