It may only be preseason, but the Buffalo Sabres remain undefeated after disposing of the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1.
Marcus Foligno scored twice, reassuring fans that he intends to take the next step in his maturation process. Mikhail Grigorenko scored the third goal, while Zemgus Girgensons posted an assist, giving him points in consecutive games. Tyler Myers also posted an assist on Foligno's first goal, as it was his shot that Foligno deflected into the net.
Ryan Miller stopped 15 of 16 shots and Matt Hackett stopped all nine of the shots he faced. Buffalo will need Hackett and Jhonas Enroth to be ready in the event Miller is traded at some point this season.
Buffalo's preseason success shouldn't be overplayed. Of course, it's only two games in a setting where players are just getting back to form. But it is promising to see Buffalo pull out wins in back-to-back games, and the presence of players like Foligno.
The Sabres will host the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 7 pm.
