The Detroit Red Wings, the hosts of the tournament, said Monday the Sabres would be one of eight teams invited to the annual prospects tournament. The event takes place Sept. 5-9 in Travaerse City, Mich.

Joining Buffalo will be the Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. These same teams were to play in the 2012 tournament, but the NHL lockout forced its cancelation.

Buffalo won the 2011 tournament. This year is the tourney's 15th anniversary. More than 350 players who were in the tourney have since played in the NHL.
