The Buffalo Sabres scored early with a Thomas Vanek goal after a nifty between the legs pass by Jason Pominville, and added another one later in the period to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead after the first period.

The Panthers got a goal off of a faceoff win when SHawn Matthias scored from the slot. Buffalo's second goal came from Cody Hodgson after burying a pretty pass from Vanek.

Tyler Myers has had a better performance after the first 20 minutes as he has looked sound defensively and contributed with a couple of scoring chances.
