The Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes played a scoreless first period.
Thomas Vanek took a slashing penalty along with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty toward the end of the frame. The Sabres will begin the second period shorthanded.
The Sabres came out physical in an attempt to address their lackluster performance last night. One surprising move by Buffalo is Mikhail Grigorenko being moved to the fourth line with John Scott and Nathan Gerbe. The move has many thinking Grigorenko may be sent back to Juniors. Jochen Hecht took Grigorenko's place on the third line with Steve Ott and Patrick Kaleta.
