The NHL and NHLPA met with the federal mediators again Thursday and some form of contact between the two sides are expected today.
"I think we're done with contact (Thursday); we're still working on a bunch of stuff as we always are," Steve Fehr told NHL.com. "I expect there will be contact [with the League on Friday]; not sure if it will be by telephone or in person, or if it is in person where it will be. It's good that we're talking. It's better than not talking and we'll see what happens."
The league and the union are running out of time to get a new CBA done, as Commissioner Gary Bettman publicly said that a 48-game season is as low as he will allow. Still, seeing the two sides talking is a positive thing. More information should be available after contact is made between the two sides today.
