Buffalo Business First reported the Sabres are in the midst of creating a Rochester Americans Foundation. The team wants the group to perform a similar function as the Sabres Foundation, which is a not-for-profit group that issues need-based grants to local charities.

The Sabres Foundation has been in operation since 1995. Since 2004, it's given out more than $200,000 to local groups. Its focus is on youth hockey, children's health/wellness and supporting non-profits that provide vital services.

The Sabres hope to have the Americans Foundation running in 2013..
