The NHL and NHLPA had an informal lunch Saturday and have yet to schedule their next session of labor talks, NHL.com reports.

The two sides are expected to schedule their next session by the end of the weekend. The player's association made two offers earlier in the week, and the league has yet to publicly respond to either of them. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has, however, publicly stated that he and the owners are available to meet as soon as the player's association is ready.

"We're waiting to hear back from them, and whenever they're ready, we're prepared to get back together," Bettman told NHL.com.

Fans of the league have been in low spirits as they've watched two months of the season disappear already. However, this past week has left reason for optimism that a deal could be done rather soon.
