The NHL has announced that today is the day for the Winter Classic's fate to be decided.
With the league's lockout still in affect, the NHL has named a November 1 deadline to decide if the Winter Classic will be played. With all of November already canceled, the league needs to continue to look at the schedule and cancel more games.
The threat of losing the Winter Classic has no bearing on the process of bringing the two sides back to the tables. Currently, there are no talks scheduled, making it almost certain that the Winter Classic will be a loss.
The NHL Players Association recently rejected a 50/50 split with the league that was proposed to them.
