The swirl of news around the Buffalo Bills' ownership situation continues to swirl, with Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas saying he's taken steps to help keep the team in Western New York.

Thomas said in an interview with ESPN that he's got the ball rolling behind the scenes on securing the team's future in Buffalo:

"I will tell you this: I have done something that will help keep the team stay in Buffalo. I just can't tell exactly what I've been doing or who I've been talking to."

Thomas took to Twitter over the weekend to back up his quote:

"Just trying to cover every angle that I can to make sure the #Bills stay in WNY …. #ThatsHowIRoll."

That news comes on the heels of an Associated Press report that an owner or ownership group should be announced before the end of summer. Among the prospective buyers with Buffalo ties are former Buffalo Sabres owner Tom Golisano, the Jacobs family that runs Delaware North and former quarterback Jim Kelly. Real estate mogul Donald Trump has also said he's interested in buying the team and keeping it in Buffalo.

Thomas, like Kelly, calls Buffalo his home to this day. He returned to Buffalo a few years after he retired from the NFL, in part because his wife is from Buffalo.

The team remains in a trust under the control of Mary Wilson, widow of Ralph Wilson Jr. She's said she will see when she finds the time is right. The team's been valued at nearly $900 million by Forbes.
