The NFL Draft is quickly approaching. Mock drafts are flying off of every writer and blogger's desk. NFL franchises are sending out smoke screens, talking up players that they may have no interest in, hoping that someone else takes them and leaves their player to be selected.
But who is the guy that the Bills should get? If appointed general manager, who would you select? That's the very question that the writers at buffalobills101.com answered. And here are the responses:
"There's a lot of talk going around about the Bills drafting Mike Evans. But I'd avoid another receiver. They drafted two in the early rounds last season in Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin, and they also traded for Mike Williams this offseason. So this does not seem an area of urgent need. If they want to improve the offense, then adding Eric Ebron at tight end is the way to go. He's a big target and has a knack for making tough catches, which would be a great complement to give EJ Manuel. But if Khalil Mack is somehow still available, I'd scrap all plans and land the best prospect ever to come out of UB. He could push an improving defense over the top."
"I really want Jadaveon Clowney. I think the Bills should do whatever it takes to get him. The thought of Clowney, Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus as the front four makes me salivate. I also wouldn't be opposed to Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans if Clowney isn't a possibility. Though, defense wins championships. If they draft a tackle, I will lose my mind."
"I believe the Buffalo Bills should select Eric Ebron, tight end, from North Carolina in the first round. The Bills haven't had a tight end that scared other teams since the days of Pete Metzelaars. The trend now in the NFL is to have more of a receiver/tight end hybrid. Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski instill fear into opposing defenses. Scott Chandler is more of a backup. EJ Manuel would thank the heavens if Ebron fell to the Bills with the 9th overall pick."
"If the Buffalo Bills were ready to pick at nine and Sammy Watkins were available, I wouldn't let a single second run off the draft clock. I understand the amount of receivers on the roster, but how many of them have the potential to be an elite talent? The Bills front office has made it clear that they need to surround quarterback EJ Manuel with as much talent as possible this season. When you hear names like Julio Jones being thrown around this kid, there has to be something special. Perhaps the football gods will be kind after the James Hardy — experience and bring the Bills an elite talent. You won't see a tremendous leap forward for Manuel by drafting a tackle. You will see improvement when there's another target to hit in the end zone."
Our four writers have weighed in and it does appear that there's a bit of a trend that offense should be addressed. Ebron has been a name talked about for months in Buffalo as well as Watkins and Evans.
While there have been a decent amount of rumors tying the Bills to a trade for the top overall pick, the chances of that happening are quite slim.
The NFL Draft kicks off Thursday May 8 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
