When NFL.com released their list of the top 25 upcoming NFL free agents, they included players that could be franchised as well as those working out long-term deals, including Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd.
While the list of the top 25 will probably see limited players actually become free agents, it's a fan's dream list of players who could hit the market and make a trip to their favorite team in hopes of a long-term deal.
Buffalo Bills fans were recipients of such an occasion when Mario Williams came to town, and then never left until he was signed to the team.
While Bills fans are holding their breath over the weekend as the Buffalo Bills meet with Byrd and his agent at the combine to talk a new deal, there is still hope that the Bills can have a top safety with Byrd's departure.
Byrd ranks at number four on the list, below tight end Jimmy Graham, defensive end Greg Hardy and linebacker Brian Orakpo.
The fifth slot is where it could get interesting, where Browns safety TJ Ward sits on the list. While it has been rumored that Ward would most likely be franchise tagged, there may be a chance that the Browns will use their tag on center Alex Mack, their Pro Bowl center if they can't reach a long-term agreement before the March 2nd deadline for franchising a player.
While there is still the chance for the Bills to franchise Byrd again, which they may do, the goal is to sign him long-term and be done with negotiations that have gone stale once already.
For Bills fans, knowing that there are other options could be peace of mind.
