The legal saga surrounding the broken engagement of Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams is over.
The Buzbee Law Firm released a statement on behalf of Williams and his ex-fiancee, Erin Marzouki, saying a settlement had been reached in his lawsuit against her. The suit, filed in May in Texas, sought the return of the $785,000 engagement ring he gave her, as well as additional damages relating to hundreds of thousand of his dollars she allegedly spent.
The matter was complicated after she released text messages he allegedly sent implying he felt suicidal. he said at the time those texts were taken out of context and that he was simply venting.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
"Mr. Williams and Ms. Marzouki have reached an amicable settlement agreement regarding their dispute. The terms of the agreement are confidential. Mr. Williams apologizes for initiating the lawsuit. Ms. Marzouki did not deserve the media backlash she received as a result of this lawsuit, because it in no way describes her good character. Mr. Williams believes the Ms. Marzouki is a great person and he regrets how their engagement ended. Ms. Marzouki regrets that, after the lawsuit was filed, certain text messages were released by her lawyer without her knowledge, that were taken out of context by the media. Ms. Marzouki believes that the media reports do not reflect the good character of Mr. Williams. We have no further comment regarding this matter."
