Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel is ending his first season under a worst-case scenario, being shut down due to injury.

Bills coach Doug Marrone said Thad Lewis will start behind center for the team's season finale Sunday at New England. Lewis is 2-2 as a starter this season, including last week's 19-0 home win against Miami. He's gone 77-for-128 for the season with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Manuel, meanwhile, basically earns an incomplete grade for his rookie season. He hurt his knee in the preseason and then aggravated it in early October. That same knee is what has made him doubtful for Sunday, which will be his sixth game missed of the year. In 10 starts, he's gone 180-of-306 for 1,972 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. he's added 186 rushing yards and two ground touchdowns.

Also Friday, the Bills put Aaron Williams on injured reserve. The safety injured his ribs against the Jacksonville Jaguars two weeks ago and has not practiced since. Wide receiver Cordell Roberson was promoted to the 53-man roster in his place. Wideout Stevie Johnson will miss the game due to his mother's death; he'll be at her services in California.
