Buffalo Bills safety has reversed course – sort of – concerning his future beyond this season.
Byrd was franchised this past offseason. After a holdout, he signed his one-year tender in September and said he was disappointed with the result.
But this week, he told “The John Murphy Show” that he’s open-minded about returning:
“I’m not going to close my mind on anything. I’m open to whatever might come. I’m leaving that to my agent and those guys. I’m out of it. I’m just going to play the best football I can for the team and try to win games and then that stuff will get handled eventually. I’ve always said all along I want to be where I’m wanted and if it’s here then great. I am definitely excited just to win games. I’ve been here for four years, so my heart is definitely here and wanting to win here and finish what you start.”
Byrd’s salary this season, as dictated by his franchise status, is $6.916 million. The team can’t begin contract talks with him until after the season is over.
The 27-year-old Byrd has made two Pro bowls. He has 24 tackles, including one sack, and three interceptions in six games this season. He has 21 career interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
