After injuring his knee on Thursday Night Football against Cleveland, starting quarterback EJ Manuel finally has a timetable to get back into the game. After a sprained LCL, doctors are saying that Manuel will be able to return in four to six weeks.
“I spoke to the doctors and it’ll be four to six weeks from now,” said head coach Doug Marrone. “So the earliest will be four and the latest will be six weeks without any setbacks. He’s doing well and he’s in rehab working hard.”
After healing faster than expected in the preseason, the team is optimistic Manuel will come back on time, but won't rush the rookie quarterback.
“Am I disappointed? No,” said Marrone. “I want to make sure that he’s healthy when he comes back. Just because you say four to six, it can be four, it can be six. It can be three or seven. It’s four to six weeks and obviously from the standpoint of being disappointed we don’t want him hurt at all. Obviously where he is in the rehabilitation process I’m happy that we’re going to get him back out there.”
The Bills are on the road for the next two weeks playing at Miami and then at New Orleans before playing the Kansas City Chiefs at home. Following the Chiefs the Bills are back on the road for the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Manuel returns after four weeks, his next start would be home against the New York Jets, the week before the bye.
There's no telling how long it may take given that Manuel has just started rehab, but once he's back in practice, the team will be able to better evaluate the rookie.
