Just four days after forcing Joe Flacco to throw a career-high five interceptions, the Buffalo Bills will take their show to primetime as they square off with the Cleveland Browns tonight.
Buffalo's defense will need to be great again if the Bills hope to beat the Browns. Both Leodis McKelvin and Jairus Byrd will be questionable for tonight's game, and if the Bills could get both of them back, the defense will get a huge boost. Kiko Alonso will also be looking to keep his interception streak alive. The rookie linebacker has four interceptions, which ties him for the league lead, and all four have come in the last three games.
On offense, Buffalo's backfield is a little banged up. Both Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller limped away from Sunday's game against Baltimore, but both are expected to play. Spiller's status seems to be more in doubt than Jackson's, however, and will be a game time decision.
EJ Manuel will make his primetime debut tonight. The rookie has shown steady progress, although his stats may be pedestrian. He will hope to take another stride forward tonight against a strong Browns defense.
Early on, it looked as if Cleveland had given up on the year. They traded away second-year running back Trent Richardson for a draft pick, leaving their fans in arms. However, since that trade, Cleveland has won two-straight games and have put themselves in first place in their division. Brian Hoyer is playing well at quarterback for Cleveland, after starter Brandon Weeden injured his thumb.
Buffalo beat Cleveland last season, in Cleveland, 24-14. Spiller was also injured in that game, but the big story was how Bills fans took over the stadium. This being a primetime game, expect more Browns fans to show up, especially given their first-place status. Buffalo last appeared on primetime last season at home against the Miami Dolphins. The Bills won that game 19-14, earning all field goals. That game was famous for Chan Gailey's decision not to play Spiller in critical points in the game, citing that Spiller sometimes gets winded. If Spiller is healthy and able to go tonight, fans can expect a healthy dose from him and Jackson as Buffalo will try to grind out a victory.
Tonight's game can be seen on the NFL Network. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:25 pm.
