Last season was one of patience with defensive end Mario Williams as he battled injury early and wasn't back to 100 percent until the later parts of the year. This season, however, Williams is a full-go for week one and says he is completely healthy and ready to take on the Patriots.
To ensure his health, head coach Doug Marrone closely monitored Williams' reps in both camp and the preseason, hoping that his ailing foot would be rehabbed and ready to go.
“What I have seen in practice now, more so than what I saw in preseason, is a more active player,” said Marrone. “A player that’s running around, a player that looks to be 100-percent and that was our goal.”
Williams has only seen action in two preseason games, and only saw a total of 28 snaps in that period. The rest and the rehabbing seem to have played a significant role in his recovery time.
“I’m good,” said Williams. “I’m excited to get back out there and get on the field and get after it.”
The coaching staff knows full well that Williams can be a game changer, and getting him ready for week one was a top priority.
