Hall of Fame Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly is weighing in on who should be the team’s starting quarterback.
Kelly, while speaking on the John Murphy Show, said he would give the advantage – so far – to veteran Kevin Kolb.
“I’ve been to a couple of practices,” Kelly told the radio show. “If I had to give a nod, I really would look more towards Kevin Kolb right now. And the reason I say that is he’s a veteran. He’s been through it. He knows what to look at.”
Kelly said he doesn’t want to take anything away from rookie quarterback EJ Manuel. It’s just that Kelly feels Manuel is quite ready for the starting gig.
“When EJ Manuel, when he gets it, when it starts clicking with him, and the more I saw him, the more people I talk to, it’s starting to click more and more,” Kelly said. “He’s such a great athlete, he’s got such a strong arm, and he’s got such good football sense, which is why they drafted him.”
Regardless of who is starting, Kelly said the Bills are stronger now at the quarterback position than they have been in the past.
“Right now, it will be interesting to see how this training camp pans out,” Kelly said. “Both of them had great minicamps, they both did very good jobs. The whole coaching staff looked at them, and that was one position they might not have to worry about as much as they have in the past.”
