Purses, backpacks and most other bags will be banned by the Buffalo Bills and all NFL teams from stadiums starting this season.

The NFL revised its policy last week on what kinds of bags are allowed in. Fans are encouraged to not bring any bags, but allowed in will be:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that are no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches.
  • Gallon clear freezer bags
  • Small clutch bags no larger than the size of a person's hand.

Banned are coolers, briefcases, fanny packs and any bags not on the above list.

"Our number one goal on game days at Ralph Wilson Stadium continues to be providing our fans with the best game day experience possible and this policy addresses both public safety and stadium entry efficiency for all Bills fans," said Andy Major, the team's vice president for event operations.

League officials hope the policy will streamline the entry process and get people to their seats more quickly. More thorough security checks that incorporate pat-downs and metal detectors caused backups exceeding an hour, in some cases, at Ralph Wilson Stadium last season.
