After coming off the best season of his career and his first All-Star Appearance Brook Lopez received unfortunate news from the Brooklyn Nets training staff. Athletic Trainer Tim Walsh notified Lopez that he would need to have foot surgery, his third in less than 2 years. The surgery was to replace a screw that was previously inserted into his foot and had bent over time.
“I think I was more disappointed than anything,” Lopez said yesterday. “I wasn’t concerned. I was disappointed, but it was best to do it when we did it, in the week after the season, to give myself the most time to get back in shape and to get ready for the season.”
Lopez will be one of the major pieces to the Nets season and is set on returning in time to join his teammates for training camp at the end of September. “I feel great,” Lopez said. “I have been getting in some weight lifting, getting shots up and everything is going well.
While most people are advised to relax while recovering from surgery, Lopez has been traveling the world with the Clinton Foundation. Lopez has been going to different locations around the world with President Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea. The foundation set up a number of different projects around the globe to help struggling areas.
Despite his traveling Lopez has been keeping up with the constant news surrounding his team:
“The direction our team has been moving in … I’m so excited for the season to start,” he said. “It’s really been unreal, and I’ve honestly found myself dreaming about working out in training camp and playing in games and everything. It’s really an ideal situation.”
