Undefeated WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and four-division world titlist Juan Manuel Marquez will be weighing-in later this afternoon for tomorrow night's HBO® pay-per-view fight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The weigh-in will be simulcast live in Times Square on the screen of the seven-story-tall NASDAQ building and the Reuters screen across the street today from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET. The weigh-in will also be streamed live via Yahoo! and Univision.
“This fight between Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez is going to be great theater, so where else would we screen this preview but in Times Square?” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.
Tomorrow night's entire live pay-per-view card is great theater.
The legendary Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KOs), of Mexico City, will be attempting to become the first Mexican fighter to win world titles in five different weight divisions.
The undercard will feature Orlando Cruz (20-2-1, 10 KOs), of San Juan, Puerto Rico, the No. 1 featherweight contender and boxing's first openly gay fighter. Cruz is getting his first world title shot and attempting to make history against former two-time world champion Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27 KOs), of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.
Vasyl Lomachenko, the two-time Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist, will be making his professional debut in a 10-round featherweight bout against WBO International featherweight champion and No. 7-rated contender Jose Ramirez (24-2-2, 15 KOs), of Mexico. There has been speculation that Lomachenko could be fast-tracked to a world title fight in just his second pro bout should he be victorious over Ramirez, who enters this fight having won six of his last seven bouts.
Light heavyweight "Irish" Seanie Monaghan (18-0, 11 KOs), a big ticket-seller and staple on recent New York fight cards with an enormous fan following, has been given a much larger stage as he will appear in the opening bout of the evening against Anthony Caputo-Smith (14-1, 10 KOs) of Kenneth Square, Pa. A victory for Monaghan and the wider exposure this opportunity presents for him will open more doors for the 32-year old fighter, whose many loyal fans from Long Island are expected to make the trip to Las Vegas for the fight.
The first act of this production starts today with the weigh-ins.
