Former lightweight champions Ray Mancini and Livingstone Bramble will be reunited for the first time in 28 years when they join forces to support their fellow fighters at The Ring 10 Veteran Boxing Foundation of New York's 3rd Annual Extravaganza on September 8, 2013 at the beautiful Marina Del Rey in Throgs Neck, New York. The purpose and goal of this non-profit foundation is to see to the welfare of boxers who have fallen on hard times and provide support where the need is greatest.
The Mancini-Bramble rivalry began on June 1, 1984 at Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York. While still recovering from the emotional trauma of the November 1982 ring death of Duk-Koo Kim, Mancini struggled to retain his WBA lightweight title in a battle with Bramble. It was a typical Mancini slugfest, with the champion suffering a deep gash over his right eyelid and putting forward a fierce effort before losing his title by TKO after 14 intense rounds.
Mancini was unable to defeat the quirky Bramble in a heated rematch on February 16, 1985 in Reno, Nevada. Bleeding from both eyes, with one almost completely swollen shut, Mancini lost by one point on all three judges' scorecards in a 15-round decision.
They now reunite for the first time since their memorable rematch 28 years ago.
Expected to join Mancini and Bramble as celebrity guests at the Ring 10 Annual Extravaganza will be Iran Barkley, Larry Barnes, Calvin Grove, Marlon Starling, John "Iceman" Scully, Mark Breland, Aaron Davis, John Duddy, actor Danny Aiello and many more. HBO's Harold Lederman will once again host the event.
Ring 10 will be introducing two new honors this year, with Lederman being issued the first "Ring 10 Bert Sugar Award" to acknowledge his vast knowledge of boxing history and former referee Tony Perez with the "Jose Torres Renaissance Man Award". Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia will receive the "Ring 10 SALDA" (Steve Acunto Lifetime Dedication Award) and the 2013 "Arthur Mercante Award" will be awarded posthumously to Referee Wayne Kelly.
In memory of some of the Bronx fighters who impacted the sport, this year's event will be dedicated to The "Boxing Belloise Brothers" – Steve, Mike and Sal Belloise – and Harry Balsamo, "The Belting Brakeman".
Tickets are now on sale for $160 (No refunds after August 30) and includes a complete brunch with cocktail hour followed by dinner and dessert with top shelf open bar. There will also be a silent auction of various boxing memorabilia.
You may reserve seating for the upcoming event or make a donation by check payable to: Ring 10, 30 Bowdon Rd, Greenlawn, NY 11740 .
