NESN.com reports that Mike Carp is headed to the disabled list with a fractured foot that he suffered after being hit by a pitch last week. Stephen Drew will be called up to fill his roster spot and will take over as the starting short stop, shifting Xander Bogaerts over to 3B.

Drew signed a prorated 1-year, $14 million deal last month after finding the market was dry for his services.  He hit .253/.333/.443 last season, but declined the team's qualifying offer in the off-season. Other teams were leery of giving Drew the type of contract he was seeking if it meant also sacrificing a draft pick.

As expected, Garin Cecchini is also being sent back to Pawtucket after getting called up for yesterday's game.  He replaced Dustin Pedroia in the lineup after the Red Sox second baseman was ejected and went 1 for 2 with a double.  Daniel Nava is expected to take his place on the roster.
