A Red Sox win means they need only one out of the next two at Fenway to win the championship.
As we ponder what strange way this game ends—perhaps a game-ending balk or passed ball—here are some things you need to know:
Victorino told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford that the back seized Saturday in Game 3 chasing down a fly ball from Matt Adams.
With the off day Tuesday, you have to figure Victorino in the lineup for Game 6 Wednesday.
–Manager John Farrell has readjusted the lineup.
Jonny Gomes will bat cleanup while Daniel Nava bats fifth.
Ortiz is hitting .727 in the series.
–Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny shuffles his lineup a bit as well.
Carlos Beltran moves from right field to center and from second in the lineup to fourth.
With the left-handed Lester, Shane Robinson replaces John Jay. Robinson will play right and bat second.
–Allen Craig did take infield, but will not start.
Matt Adams plays first.
–If the Cardinals are to win the championship, they must beat Lester tonight.
Although anything can happen in a Game 7, the likelihood of St. Louis winning both games at Fenway is remote.
John Lackey—Wednesday night’s starter—wants the ball and has turned back the clock to when he was the ace of the Los Angeles Angels.
–If Lester is on, Farrell needs to ride him as long as he can. Pitch counts do not matter Tuesday as Lester can only appear in a cameo role again this series if it does go the distance.
Same situation for Wainwright and the Cardinals. Their World Series ends tonight, leave it all out on the mound.
–You get the sense that the Red Sox are ready to explode at the plate.
Stephen Drew made contact all four times at the plate in Game 4 and, after Saturday’s harsh ending, Boston came out resilient and ready to play.
–St. Louis should not be afraid to play small ball.
They need to disrupt Lester somehow and take advantage of Bogaerts youth at third and David Ortiz at first.
–This is the biggest game of the series, so far.
A win puts one of these teams on the verge of a championship.
With both teams being so even, we are bound to have another classic.
