Although the momentum favors the Cardinals after winning Game 3 on that controversial defensive obstruction call, baseball is a funny game and the Red Sox have been counted out a number of times this year and bounced back.
With first pitch a few hours away, here is the latest from St. Louis:
In the ALCS against Detroit and the World Series, Drew is two-for-29 with 15 strikeouts.
–Daniel Nava will play left and protect David Ortiz in the lineup.
–David Ross will catch for the slumping Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
–Only change for St. Louis is Daniel Descalso will play short for Peter Kozma.
–With all the chatter in regards to whether Clay Buchholz would start Sunday or no, the pressure on Buchholz and the Red Sox is now through the roof.
Yes, Buchholz will pitch and they expect him to have a normal start.
On the other hand, he has not looked right in any of his playoff appearances. The chances of him pitching into the seventh inning are remote.
If Buchholz was hoping to have a quiet and confident start, the Red Sox and he are sadly mistaken.
–Ryan Dempster will be the long guy out of the bullpen for Boston as Felix Doubront pitched two innings Saturday.
–Lance Lynn has not been effective in his two playoff appearances.
With one start against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers, Lynn surrendered seven earned runs, six walks and 13 hits over 9.2 innings.
The Red Sox should see plenty of good pitches to hit and, with Trevor Rosenthal not likely to close for St. Louis after a 20-pitch outing Saturday, have a real chance to even this series and guarantee another game at Fenway.
–All three games of this series have been decided on mental miscues.
St. Louis played nervous early in Game 1 and were blown out. Bad throws to third by Craig Breslow and Jarrod Saltalamacchia cost Boston Games 2 and 3.
These two teams are even. The series should be even come Monday morning.
