The Boston Red Sox made two deals before today’s trade deadline, both were relatively small deals.
The first deal that will have implications on the Red Sox bullpen, it the acquisition of Craig Breslow, a left-handed relief pitcher from the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the trade, the Red Sox traded outfielder Scott Podsednik and relief pitcher Matt Albers.
On the season, Breslow has a 2.70 ERA in 43 1/3 innings. By adding the lefty, Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com says that it means Franklin Morales could return to the starting rotation.
In a much smaller deal, the Red Sox traded 1B/OF prospect Lars Anderson to the Cleveland Indians for relief pitching prospect Steven Wright. The knuckleball specialist was assigned to AA Portland after the trade.
