What Would It Look Like with Jeff Green Playing Shooting Guard

It's been overstated, but it bears repeating. The Boston Celtics are jam packed with shooting guards. Over the summer, the conversation never drifted towards Jeff Green. He seemed like a sure bet as a small forward, strictly because of all the shooting guards on the team.

However, on Thursday Brad Stevens said that Jeff Green "will slide down there" when discussing the shooting guard position and how the competition is going.

So how often will Stevens play Green at shooting guard and what might that look like? It could lead to a big and athletic group that will run the floor, at least that is what would be assumed.

If you surrounded Green with Phil Pressey at point guard, Gerald Green at small forward, Jared Sullinger at power forward, and Kelly Olynyk at center that would generate some excitement. It could be a fun second unit that would run up and down the floor.

The other possibility, especially if none of the true shooting guards steps up (although Stevens was most positive about Courtney Lee today, saying he was "very, very good") is that Stevens could have a starting line-up of Avery Bradley, Jeff Green, Gerald Wallace, Jared Sullinger, and Kelly Olynyk (or Vitor Faverani). This seems like a less likely circumstance.

The possibility of Green playing some shooting guard is not new, but it was surprising considering the log jam. However, if Wallace has a good pre-season and no shooting guard makes an impact it might be worth putting Green at shooting guard.
