Boise States performance was commendable in East Lansing. There were mistakes and missed opportunities that coach Peterson would like to have back but the fact is this young team played well and accomplished much. Quarterback Joe Southwick, making his first start made some poor throws and at times looked uncomfortable in the pocket. With more playing time and being able to work with the first team Southwicks play will get better and more consistent. Not having a solid running game hurt the Boise State offense and minimized the plays Southwick was able to call. Play action is crucial when playing a team like Michigan State and once the running game was no longer a threat Michigan States defense was able to man up and stack the line putting Southwick into more pressure situations.

Boise at times had the matchups they wanted but failed to capitalize on those situations. The offense had too many three and outs and stalled drives that kept their defense on the field for too long. This allowed Michigan States Le'Veon Bell, a future first rounder to get into a rhythm and run behind the large Michigan State offensive line tiring out the undersized Boise State defense.

In the end it was a close game and there are signs of better days ahead. Left tackle Charles Leno had early trouble against the mammoth William Gholston but held firm and worked hard protecting his quarterback. Other players on offense like Gabe Linehan, D.J. Harper, Mitch Burroughs, Matt Miller and Joe Kellogg showed signs of  solid play and will be a force to reckon with.

On the defensive side of the ball Defense Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski prepared his squad with a solid game plan. Be aggressive and physical, hit hard and force turnovers.  It was the defense that scored the points and kept the game close. However being on the field for too long was too much to overcome.  This is a young defense that is tough and determined. Players like J.C. Percy, Jamar Taylor, Lee Hightower, Darren Koontz and others will be household names for bronco fans and bronco nation.
