By now you should be accustomed to the fact that every Thursday during the season you will get your weekly dose of the AFC North with our AFC North Thursday column. Week eight saw the Baltimore Ravens on a bye week and the Cincinnati Bengals extend their lead in the division.
As we have already mentioned, the Ravens were off during week eight and used the time to get much healthier and hopefully used the time to make the proper adjustments in order to make the offense work more fluidly. Despite not playing, the Ravens lost ground in the division race.
Cincinnati hosted the New York Jets and absolutely embarrassed them with a 49-9 victory and extended their lead over the Ravens to two and a half games. The game was never in question and the Bengals stormed out to a 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and just continued to pile it on. Andy Dalton had a fantastic game against a pretty good defense as he completed 19 of 30 pass attempts for 325 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception. The Bengals had two receivers eclipse the 100 yard mark as AJ Green reeled in three grabs for 115 yards, while Marvin Jones caught eight balls for 122 yards and four touchdowns.
The Browns went on the road in week eight and put up a pretty good fight against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, falling in the end 23-17. Jason Campbell has a pretty nice game for the Browns against a very good Chiefs defense as he completed 22 of 36 pass attempts for 293 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Josh Gordon, who was rumored to be on the trade block earlier this week, but ended up staying put, reeled in five grabs for 132 yards and a touchdown. Cleveland's offensive line did a great job holding the best pass rush in the league to just one sack.
Pittsburgh, who was seemingly on a roll winning two straight and many thought they were back in the hunt, fell on the road the Oakland Raiders 21-18. The play of the game came on the first play of the game as Raiders' quarterback Terrell Pryor ran for a 93 yard touchdown to help lead Oakland to an eventual 21-3 halftime lead. Pittsburgh battled back scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell short and dropped to 2-5 on the season.
The AFC North is beginning to clear itself up as the Bengals now hold a substantial lead and the Steelers are all but done. The Bengals and Ravens still have to play each other twice this season and Cincinnati has to go on the road tonight to play the Dolphins which is never easy on Thursday Nights.
