Week eight presents the Baltimore Ravens with some much needed time off with their bye week, but Baltimore Ravens TE Matt Furstenburg was kind enough to take some time to sit down with us for an interview.
Before we get to the interview, let us refresh your memory on just who Furstenburg is. Baltimore signed him in April as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Maryland. He battled all training camp for a roster spot going up against the likes of Dallas Clark and Billy Bajema, and although he did not make the active roster, he is now currently on the Ravens practice squad just waiting for his opportunity. During the preseason, he recorded four grabs for 54 yards.
Now let's get to the interview shall we.
BR101: If you can, describe the feeling when you got the call that the Ravens wanted to sign you?
It was a dream come true, all the years of pushing myself in the sport, was for the opportunity to one day, play in the NFL.
BR101: Give us some insight, what is it like for a guy to be on the practice squad, knowing you are just one opportunity away from getting the opportunity to take the field in an NFL regular season game?
You have to prepare each week like you are going to play. There are no practice reps for you during the week, so that's why it is so important to stay mentally focused into the game plan each week.
BR101: Obviously it is special no matter what, but was it even more so by getting signed by Baltimore since you played your college ball at Maryland?
Torrey has been a great friend during this whole process, he has made me feel right at home.
BR101: We have heard Marlon (Brown) say that he was surprised how funny and laid back (Joe) Flacco is. Were you surprised as well?
Yeah it is pretty funny once you think about it, but Joe (Flacco) is great leader in everything he does. He is just having fun at what he loves to do.
BR101: What part of your game have you learned you need the most work on, since coming to Baltimore?
I have to focus on playing fast all the time, and making sure my routes are precise.
BR101: Last one for you, the Castle in Owings Mills is one of the best practice facilitites in the NFL, what is your favorite part?
The Castle is enormous and everything the Ravens do is first class. I would have to say my favorite part is the cafeteria, because they cook some of the best food I have ever had.
BR101: We just want to thank you again for doing this for us. We really appreciate it! We are anxious to see you in game action once the opportunity presents itself.
Ravens101 would like to thank Matt for taking the time to respond to a few questions for our readers, and it is only a matter of time before Furstenburg gets his opportunity in the NFL.
