It's Saturday, and that means it's time for Ravens101's key Baltimore Ravens, and this week their opponent is the hated rival, Pittsburgh Steelers. This game needs no introduction, but this edition of the rivalry is going to look much different than years past.
As always, there are several key players in every game, but we have narrowed our list down to the four key Ravens to watch for in tomorrow's rivalry matchup.
He is going to be as important as any player on the defense tomorrow. Dumervil is one of the new flavors to this rivalry, but his play is going to be just as important as any of the rivalry veterans. Pittsburgh knows what Terrell Suggs can do, and will see everything he has already done this season, thus they are going to focus a lot of their attention on keeping him at bay, thus Dumervil's side could see some mismatches that favor Elvis and the Ravens. If Dumervil can beat his blocker and get to Ben Roethlisberger, it could be a very long day for the Steelers offense.
Last week we saw the Packers essentially take Smith out of the game with constant double teams and great man to man coverage. This week, Smith goes up against Ike Taylor. Smith said earlier in the week that Taylor draws the trash talk out of him, and this is going to be a great matchup to watch on Sunday. Smith is going to have to find ways of beating Taylor in order to try and force the Pittsburgh secondary to double team him, thus opening up the passing game for Tandon Doss, Jacoby Jones and Marlon Brown.
Pittsburgh has struggled with blocking the pass rush of opponents and are currently tied with Jackosonville for allowing the fourth most sacks per game at 3.8 in the entire NFL. Unquestionably the Steelers are going to put their focus on Suggs, but Upshaw, who is normally in the game in running situations, is going to have a big influence on this game. If Upshaw can get to Roethlisberger when they pass on running downs, then Pittsburgh will be in a world of trouble as they will almost be forced to actually run the ball in those situations. In addition, Upshaw has been very good against the run this season and he will need to continue that in order to keep the struggling Steelers run game from gaining any momentum.
Look, it's Steelers and Ravens, it's going to be a close game that is going to come down to a possession or two and Tucker is going to be as important to the Ravens chances as anyone. In this rivalry, 11 of the last 13 games, including the playoffs, have been decided by one possession, thus the kickers are going to be extremely important and the choppy surface of Heinz Field makes accuracy that much more essential in the kicking game.
