The Baltimore Ravens know that their offensive line has been struggling, and late last night the news broke that the Ravens made a big move and acquired left tackle Eugene Monroe from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Baltimore is reportedly (according to ESPN's Adam Schefter) sending multiple late round draft picks to the Jaguars in exchange for the former 2009 first round pick, eighth overall.
Monroe is regarded as an above average left tackle around the league, but it became apparent that his days were numbered when Jacksonville drafted left tackle Luke Joeckel with the second overall pick in this year's draft.
“It was shocking news,” Monroe told The Associated Press. “It came out of nowhere for me. I’m just preparing to make the move. It’s a fresh start.”
Although center Gino Gradkowski has struggled the most this season thus far for the Ravens offensive line, this trade has painted quite a dark picture for current left tackle Bryant McKinnie. He has struggled this season, and was also part of the party bus incident earlier this season as it was his birthday celebration. McKinnie told Baltimore radio station WNST that he was aware of the trade and that the coaches informed him before the news broke late Tuesday Night.
Monroe is signed through this season after 2014 was voided off of his original rookie contract. The 6-foot-5, 306-pound Monroe went to the University of Virginia and is expected to arrive in Baltimore to take his physical on Wednesday. Once he passes his physical, the trade will be official.
