The Baltimore Ravens knew it would be tough replacing TE Dennis Pitta, nonetheless WR Anquan Boldin, with their production over the middle of the field and Thursday Night's game showed the Ravens need some help. According to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports, the Ravens will workout former New York Giants and New England Patriots tight end Jake Ballard today.
Despite a decent game yardage wise, TE Dallas Clark had an abysmal game catching the football as he had several drops, including one that would have went for a touchdown to end the second half, but Baltimore had to settle for a field goal. TE Ed Dickson was almost invisible Thursday Night and also contributed a couple of drops.
Ballard, who had a nice year for the Giants in their Super Bowl winning 2011 season with 38 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns, was among the final cuts of the Patriots a week and a half ago. The free agent has been recovering from reconstructive ACL surgery, and the news out of New England camp is that Ballard had lost a step or more and was cut in favor of Daniel Fells and Zach Sudfeld.
Obviously the Ravens are in a bit of a desperation mode to find someone who can catch the ball over the middle of the field and although the workout today does not mean Clark is losing his job, but it is certainly a hint thrown the way of Clark to pick it up or Baltimore will find a replacement.
