Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the Shiancoe move, especially with the remaining uncertainty on Ed Dickson’s availability moving forward. Shiancoe was not even thought of a disposable commodity until the Ravens made a move to sign veteran tight end Dallas Clark. With Clark’s arrival, Shiancoe immediately became a contender for the third tight end on the roster, but it appears the Ravens will go with a more blocking style tight end in their third spot with either Billy Bajema or Matt Furstenburg. One positive that can be taken out of this is that if Baltimore is willing to depart ways with Shiancoe, Dickson must be progressing well in his recovery from a partially torn hamstring.
Harewood, who has seen quite a fall in two years as he entered last season as the team’s starting left guard, but poor performance has led to his ultimate departure in 2013. Ramon has been a disappointment in Baltimore and was so ineffective, that he found himself go from starter to being on the gameday inactive list most of the time last season.
Hall, although not a huge surprise, is a sad cut because of what he did in the offseason to try and make this team. Bryan shed around 50 pounds this offseason to make the move from defensive tackle to linebacker. There is little doubt that Hall will get picked up by a team and remain in the league.
In addition to Shiancoe, Harewood and Hall, the Ravens also cut WR Tommy Streeter, RB Damien Berry, WR Rashaad Carter, G Jack Cornell, T David Mims, CB Moe Lee, DE Will Pericak, LB Meshak Williams and WR Gerrard Sheppard.
Other notes to come out of Baltimore camp yesterday were the placement of Adrian Hamilton on injured reserve with a wrist injury, which eliminates a roster spot. Also, the Ravens signed quarterback Dayne Crist, basically for a one preseason game contract as they simply needed quarterback depth for Thursday’s final preseason game with Joe Flacco not likely to play very long, if at all, and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor possibly suffering a concussion in last week’s preseason game.
Baltimore now has 77 players on the active roster, but will not likely cut two more players before Tuesday’s deadline as they have four possible players to be placed on injured reserve in Dennis Pitta, Jameel McClain, Ryan Jensen and Kapron Lewis-Moore.
