GM Ozzie Newsome always has a plan, and he continued to bring veteran leadership to the Baltimore Ravens offense as they agreed in principal with veteran TE Dallas Clark. The signing comes just a day after the team added veteran WR Brandon Stokley.

Head coach John Harbaugh announced after practice at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday that the team had agreed in principal with the 34 year old tight end.

Clark is going to give this offense another veteran presence, especially at the tight end position after the injuries to Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson. Offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell and Clark are very familiar with each other from Caldwell's time in Indianapolis.

Dallas is going to bring some versatility to this Ravens offense and perhaps fill a couple of important voids left behind with the departure of Anquan Boldin and the season ending injury to Pitta. Clark often lined up in the slot while with the Colts and was also a very viable option on third down, which will be huge for Baltimore.

“He’s a great stop, option, [and] crossing-route guy, so that’s the type of routes that move the chains,” Harbugh said. “He has a good catch radius. Those are the things that Dennis excelled at, so those are things that he excels at.”

Clark spent the first nine years of his NFL career with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis before playing in Tampa Bay last season. After injuries limited Clark to just 17 combined games in his final two seasons with the Colts, Clark played in all 16 games for the Buccaneers last year, catching 47 passes for 435 yards and four touchdowns.

The signing comes just under two weeks after Baltimore signed veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to help fill the void left by Pitta when he suffered his dislocated/fractured hip, and Dickson is still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered on August 4th, so Clark will add some much needed depth at the position.

Overall in 10 professional seasons, Clark has caught 474 passes for 5,322 yard and 50 touchdowns. His best season came in 2009 when he caught 100 passes for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning his only trip to the Pro Bowl.

Clark will arrive in Charm City today and take his physical and as long he passes the physical, we should see him on the practice field at some point this afternoon.
