Tuesday marked the first open training camp practice of the 2013 season for the Baltimore Ravens and health is the early headline. Lardarius Webb and Haloti Ngata headline the group of players that enter camp 100% healthy after recovering from injuries.
Webb, who suffered an ACL tear in week 6 of the 2012 season is back and is 100% as training camp gets under way. It was obvious he is ready to go as he was on the practice field yesterday taking part in 11 on 11 drills and had full range of motions while moving quickly with no hesitations on cuts or stop and go's.
“Lardarius is practicing and we will bring him along as we see fit,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “You saw him out there today, so he’s doing well.”
Ngata also joined Webb on the practice field and with the revamped defensive line, Ngata is poised to have a season where he could return to his dominant form after battling injuries for most of the 2012 season. It was impressive to see how good of shape Ngata was in after the knee injury he suffered in the Super Bowl limited him in the offseason and he reportedly "blew away" the conditioning test.
Webb and Ngata were not the only players back on the practice field with a full bill of health as LB Albert McClellan (shoulder), NT Terrence Cody (hip), LB Arthur Brown (sports hernia) and TE Ed Dickson (groin) were all on the practice field as full go participants.
Brown, the Ravens second round pick in this year's draft will be vying for a starting spot as he looks to make an immediate impact on this defense. Arthur has fully recovered from the sports hernia surgery he had this offseason and with Jameel McClain's status up in the air as he recovers from his spinal cord contusion, Brown has a legitimate shot at starting in week 1.
Baltimore is enjoying the new found health that this team has and will continue to work as training camp heats up. The rest of the veterans will join the rookies, quarterbacks and injured veterans this week as the full team training camp officially begins the 2013 NFL season.
