It is no secret that the Baltimore Ravens were not the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but the 2012 Ravens did just that and they continue to ride that wave of success as Joe Flacco, Ray Rice and the team as a whole are up for several ESPY Awards.

Perhaps the most obvious category that the Ravens are nominated for is the 'Best Team' and the 2012 Ravens will be going up against the Chicago Blackhawks, Miami Heat, San Francisco Giants, Alabama University football team, Oklahoma University softball team and the U.S. Women's gymnastics team.

The team as a whole got a second nomination as they will be up for the 'Best Game' Award for their thrilling 38-35 double overtime victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs. The game was the stage for the 'Mile High Miracle' by Flacco to Jacoby Jones. Baltimore will be up against  the Boston Bruins’ Game 7 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Heat’s Game 6 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Joe Flacco has been nominated in the 'Best Championship Performance' category and the Ravens quarterback and Super Bowl XLVII MVP will be going up against NBA Finals MVP LeBron James, World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval and Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski. Flacco completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 287 yards and three touchdowns en route to being named Super Bowl MVP.

Not to be out done, Ray Rice also got a nomination in the 'Best Play' category for what else? 4th and 29. Rice's 'Hey Diddle Diddle' play against the San Diego Chargers is currently ranked third in a bracket of 16 plays. To no one's surprise, the current top play is the hit by South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and No. 2 is a 55-foot buzzer-beater from high school basketball player Khalil Edney to win the New York Section 1 Class AA final. Edney, oddly enough, attends Rice’s high school alma mater, New Rochelle.

The 2013 ESPY Awards, which will be held on July 17 at 9 p.m. The ESPN awards show will be hosted by actor Jon Hamm.
