Pierce was in Philadelphia Sunday evening as he and a friend were robbed at gun point and his BMW was stolen by the armed assailant.
CBS 3 in Philadelphia broke the story and reported that Pierce and his friend were obviously shaken by the robbery, but were not injured at all during the robbery. Pierce's car was later found, and Police are searching it for clues to identify the assailant.
The Ravens did issue a statement as they emailed the following to the Philadelphia TV station in response to the original report:
“We have been in contact with Bernard and we are aware of the situation."
Baltimore drafted Pierce in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and he had a surprising rookie season where he rushed for 532 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry. He was fantastic in his backup role behind Ray Rice and proved to be a great counter-punch to Rice as Pierce would run downhill and square up a defender to inflict some punishment of his own.
Pierce will likely see an increased role this season and could become the featured third down back, especially in third and short situations.
