The 2013 NFL Season is going to be a special one for the Baltimore Ravens as they will be the defending Super Bowl Champions for just the second time in franchise history, but there are going to be several reunion types of matchups throughout the season.

In the NFL now days, almost every time two teams lace them up, there is someone on one of the rosters that used to play for the other team, but this year Baltimore is going to be facing a lot of these reunions.

It will not take long for Baltimore to face a former Raven on the other side as week two brings such a matchup. The Ravens will play host to AFC North division foe Cleveland and will be facing Paul Kruger for the first time since he signed with the Browns this offseason. Both Kruger and Baltimore will find out quickly if Paul was a success because of the system or himself.

The reunion parade continues at M&T Bank Stadium in week three with perhaps the biggest of them all. When quarterback Joe Flacco lines up for the first offensive play of the game against the visiting Houston Texans, he will have to account for someone who he used to account for on the practice field, future Hall of Famer Ed Reed. Undoubtedly Baltimore will give Reed a warm welcome in his return to Charm City, but Flacco and the Ravens offense will have no intention of doing so once the game begins.

Week five will once again put a former Ravens defender up against his former team, this time while Baltimore is on the road visiting the Miami Dolphins. Dannell Ellerbe will be lining up against Flacco’s offense in week five, and we will once again get a chance to see if a player was a success due to Baltimore’s defensive scheme or the player himself.

Current Ravens:

Baltimore signed several key players this offseason that is going to help out the team’s 17th ranked defense from a year ago, but the headliner is Elvis Dumervil. In a rematch of the AFC Divisional round from a year ago, where we saw the “mile high miracle,” Dumervil will get the chance to rush his former team in the Denver Broncos in the NFL’s Opening Night game in Denver. Baltimore will hope for the same result and Dumervil will be looking to be on the winning side of the matchup.

There are several other reunions that will take place this season including yet another matchup between the Ravens and former Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan when Baltimore hosts the New York Jets in week 12, but we have highlighted the key matchups to watch for this season.
