Bursting with player talent, including the return of defensive legends Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, the Baltimore Ravens will return this season as one of the most elite teams in the league. Looking to face one of the toughest schedules set for next season, the Ravens will aim to add to their depth of talent by strategically picking new team members in the upcoming NFL draft.
The events of the offseason have created question marks and imbalances at certain positions for the Baltimore Ravens. With the first round commencing tomorrow, it is a perfect time to address Baltimore's dire draft needs.
WIDE RECEIVER
During the free agency market the Ravens lost WR Lee Evans to the Jaguars. This void creates an imbalance in covering both sides of possession receiver, Anquan Boldin. While Torrey Smith has proven to be solid in one slot outside of Boldin, the Ravens are in serious need of a capable target to fill the position on Boldin's other side. The Ravens have options in second year players Doss and Williams, but neither have proven to be the quick, red zone effective WR that Baltimore truly needs.
OFFENSIVE LINE (GUARD/CENTER, LEFT TACKLE)
The Ravens lost Guard Ben Grubbs to the Saints this offseason. Although they re-signed Matt Birk at center, it is clearly the end of the veteran's career. It would be ideal for Baltimore to find a capable player that can double as a guard and center. This is a serious need for the Ravens. Another question mark in the Baltimore offensive line is the left tackle position. The Ravens still have McKinnie at left tackle but he has been plagued with difficulties staying healthy and able in his conditioning and playing.
LINEBACKERS
The Chargers acquired OLB Jarret Johnson this offseason. Johnson was Baltimore's starting outside linebacker. With little faith in their current options to fill Johnson's spot, the Ravens will need a strong replacement to rely on. As for the inside linebacker position, this is an ideal time for Baltimore to sign someone that Ray Lewis can groom to become his replacement when he retires.
